I thought I’d share a bit of Michael Overa’s review of Beneath the Skin in the latest issue of Gothic Beauty Magazine. I swooned over the Neil Gaiman comment. LOL.
” . . . Beneath the Skin is Book Three of The Maker’s Song by Adrian Phoenix, and I would put it up there with books like American Gods by Neil Gaiman. The plot line is somewhat familiar to those of us who have been long time vamp fans. The attractive rock star vampire and his entourage are on the run from the humans and demons that are hunting them. There are twists and turns along the way, but we know that the vampire’s heightened senses and increased powers are probably going to save him in the end.
“These books have a strong connection to New Orleans and the mysterious culture of vampires that have been flying – no pun intended – underneath the radar for centuries in the Big Easy. The book centers around a dozen or so main characters, including: FBI agents, Shadow Branch agents, Dante Baptiste (Prejean), as well as True Blood vamps, converted vamps and Fallen Angels.
“If you’ve been reading Adrian Phoenix’s books for a while then you’ll be interested to learn more about Dante’s past and how he got to where he is. There are a lot of things that Dante is just now beginning to “remember” – most of which has been repressed by a mixture of guilt and shame (and maybe a little bit of government programming and brain-washing).
“This book is interesting and compelling and is a slightly different take on the vampire world as we have come to know it in other books. If you’re a vamp fan and looking for something new to read, I would suggest The Maker’s Song.”
